Like humans all dogs have different appetites. Labradors are notoriously food focused, some might even say greedy. They wolf down their dinners and seem to have plenty of room for more.
Other dogs seemingly have small appetites and will turn up their noses at the most tempting of treats. Every dog is different and loving owners need to cater for their individual needs.
Carnilove dog food is made with respect for the natural origins of dogs. They contain lots of quality meat plus beneficial fruits, veggies, and herbs. There are three ranges to choose from so how can you ensure you are feeding your dog the right amount each day?
What Your Dog Needs
We recommend dogs are fed twice a day, morning and late afternoon if possible. The amount of food you should feed them should be based on their weight in kilograms. For example, a 15kg dog should have 160gs of Carnilove Duck & Pheasant dog food split into two meals of 80gs. Our top of the range Carnilove True Fresh Beef dog food is made with high quality fresh meat and has a slightly lower level of protein, so we recommend feeding two means of 87.5gs.
Lifestyle and life stage should be considered. Do you have a very active working dog that may exercise for more than an hour each day? Are they young and busy or more mature and sedate? Their activity levels will vary with age and this can have an impact on how much they should be fed.
If you are concerned that your dog might be overweight, you should consult your vet. With veterinary guidance, a gentle weight loss plan would be beneficial. Reducing the daily food allowance by 10 per cent until your dog has dropped down to the recommended weight for the breed. Once the ideal weight is reached you can gradually increase the amount back up to the recommended amount.
Transitioning to Carnilove
If you are considering switching your dog’s food from another brand onto Carnilove firstly, great decision and thank you! We always suggest that you start slow. Carnilove is a high quality, high protein diet and if your dog is switching from a food that includes less meat and more carbohydrate it’s better that they adjust to the ingredients slowly. The process of transition should take approximately two weeks.
We advise only feeding 25% Carnilove in the first four days, increasing that to 50% from day five to day nine, then 75% from day 10 – 14. After two weeks your dog should be happy and thriving on a fully Carnilove diet.
Carnilove Feeding Guide
Our Carnilove Dog Food Feeding Guide features on each product page on our website alongside a detailed description, the composition and analytical constituents of each recipe. We provide recommended daily consumption information for every size of dog from 5 – 90kgs or Chihuahua to Great Dane!
It’s important to note, every bag of Carnilove Dog Food will also have a Feed Table located on the back of the pack, which clearly demonstrates how much food to feed your dog, depending on their weight.
Within the Carnilove Feeding Guide, we recommend that a small amount of lukewarm water is added to the dry kibble to moisten and soften it. We always recommend that dogs have access to fresh water all day to keep them hydrated.
It’s worth monitoring and managing your dog’s weight. Canine obesity is on the increase. The vet charity for pets in need, PDSA reports that nearly half of dogs in the UK are overweight. Carrying additional weight can have long term health implications as it is closely linked to arthritis and diabetes.
Putting your canine companion on the scales, checking our Carnilove Dog Food Feeding Guide and keeping a routine of regular walks and playtime are all great ways to look after your dog and keep them trim.
