Switching to Carnilove

How to transition from another brand to Carnilove?

It’s important to introduce new food gradually. A gradual pet food transition will give your dog or cat time to adjust to their new food and will also reduce the chances of digestive upset.

When feeding Carnilove for the first time, we recommend you start by mixing 25 percent of Carnilove with 75 percent of the old food. Slowly increase the Carnilove proportionately over the next 7-10 days until you are feeding 100 percent Carnilove. Throughout the transition you will want to continue to monitor their appetite, stools and body condition. For more diet sensitive pets, you may want to slow the transition down and introduce Carnilove over a longer period of time.

Keep in mind that the feeding amount provided is based on an average group of animals and is meant to be used as a starting point. Every pet is unique and factors such as metabolism, activity, and environment all impact how much your pet needs to eat. If you feel based on your pet’s body condition that they need more or less, you can certainly adjust the recommended amount.

Which food should I choose?

With so many choices it can be hard to decide which Carnilove food to choose for your dog or cat. Our recommendation is to start with a formula that has a protein source that has worked well for your pet in the past. For example, if your cat loves fish, you could try the Salmon formula. If they like more unique proteins, you could try the Lamb & Wild Boar formula; similar formulas are available for dogs. For further help choosing a formula for your pet, contact us here.

Wet or Dry?

This largely comes down to personal preference of the owner and their pets. Both Carnilove wet and dry pet foods are complete and balanced, which means you can feed them independently or combined to add extra variety to every meal.

How many meals should I feed?

For most healthy adult dogs and cats, two meals will be sufficient. However, every pet is unique and how many meals to feed may be determined by a number of factors.

Puppies and kittens will require smaller meals, fed little and often, and may need as many as 3-4 meals fed evenly throughout the day.

Small dog breeds have smaller stomachs and may find it easier to consume their daily allowance in smaller portions. You may consider introducing a 3rd meal, taking a portion of their daily allowance for a smaller lunchtime meal.

Cats like humans are unique so you can try both scheduled meals and grazing to see what works best for your cat and your routine. Multi-cat households may find scheduled meals work better especially if weight management and/or other cats sneaking food is a concern. The total daily allowance can be found on the label. This will need to be divided into the number of meals you choose to feed with the schedule that you find works best.
